· the short version: we're not weird about it ·
Effective: February 2025 · Last updated: February 2025
The short version: You give us your email. We send you the newsletter. We don't sell your data, track you across the internet, or do anything creepy with it. That's it. The rest of this document is just the legal version of that sentence.
// 01 — Who We Are

The Friday Dispatch is a weekly newsletter. When we say "we," "us," or "our," we mean the people who run The Friday Dispatch. Questions? Email us at email@thefridaydispatch.com.

// 02 — What We Collect

We collect only what we need to send you the newsletter:

  • Email address — required. This is how we send you the thing.
  • Name — optional. If you provide one, we use it to address you like a human instead of "hey subscriber."
  • Referral relationship — if someone referred you, we record who, to credit their referral count. No personal details beyond that.
  • Login token — a short-lived token sent to your email when you log in to your dashboard. It expires in 15 minutes and can only be used once.

We do not collect payment information, location data, device identifiers, or anything else not listed above.

// 03 — How We Use It
  • To send you The Friday Dispatch, every Friday.
  • To manage your subscription — confirming your email, processing unsubscribe requests, logging you into your subscriber dashboard.
  • To credit referrals when someone signs up using your unique referral link.
  • To respond to contact form inquiries (job postings, advertising).

We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, train AI models, or send you anything other than the newsletter and service-related messages (like a login link).

// 04 — Who We Share It With

Nobody. We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or any other purpose.

We use the following service providers to operate the newsletter, and share only the minimum data required:

  • SendGrid — email delivery. Your email address is passed to SendGrid to deliver the newsletter and transactional emails (confirmation links, login tokens).
  • BeeHiiv — newsletter platform for managing the subscriber list and distributing issues.

Both providers are contractually bound to protect your data and may not use it for their own purposes.

// 05 — Cookies & Analytics

We use cookies sparingly:

  • Session cookie — a functional cookie that keeps you logged in to your subscriber dashboard. This is necessary for the login feature to work. It is not used for tracking.

For analytics, we use Umami, a privacy-respecting, open-source analytics tool. Umami does not use cookies, does not track you across sites, does not fingerprint your device, and does not collect personally identifiable information. It tells us how many people visited a page — nothing more.

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any third-party advertising tracking.

// 06 — Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Unsubscribe — every email includes an unsubscribe link. Click it and you're done.
  • Request your data — email us and we'll tell you what we hold about you.
  • Request deletion — email us and we'll delete your account and data from our records.
  • Correct your data — you can update your name in your subscriber dashboard, or email us for anything else.

We aim to respond to all data requests within 30 days. Usually much faster, because there are two of us and a laptop.

// 07 — Data Retention

We keep your data for as long as you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe or request deletion, we remove your information from our active systems within 30 days. Some data may persist in backup systems for a short period before being purged as part of standard backup rotation.

// 08 — Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll note the updated date at the top and, if the changes are significant, mention it in the next issue of the newsletter. We won't spring anything on you.

// 09 — Contact

Questions, requests, complaints, or if you just want to chat about data privacy because you're that person: email@thefridaydispatch.com.
